WE LOVE TEETHNS

Teenagers make-up the largest portion of our patients.

We love seeing them develop self-confidence and mature during their orthodontic treatment. We are orthodontists but we are also parents that are committed to the well-being of our patients, big and small. Teenagers are old enough to be fully aware of their situation. It is all the more important that they are properly informed and fully understand what their orthodontic treatment implies. We take specific care to make them comfortable so that they feel free to ask questions before, during and after their treatment. We understand that an orthodontic treatment might be difficult for a growing teenager, this is why our team is always attentive to their needs, for them to feel heard and supported throughout the process and the entire treatment.

What will happen at my first visit?

There is no treatment being done at the fist visit!
The first visit to our clinic starts with a friendly introduction and a tour of our facilities. Then together, we fill in and revise a medical questionnaire before taking digital photos of your face and your teeth. Afterward, Dr. Archambault, Dr. Morton or Dr. Sallard will perform a complete orthodontic examination. And finally, your orthodontist will answer all of your questions and send a report to your dentist.

If you choose to begin an orthodontic treatment at our clinic, the length of the visits will vary depending on the stages of the treatment. At each appointment, you will meet with your orthodontist and a technician that will take care of your treatment.

QUESTIONS?

Irritation of lips and cheeks

At the beginning or your orthodontic treatment, your gums and your inner cheeks may be irritated in some places. We will provide you with orthodontic wax that you may apply to your braces or the wires that are bothering you (dry the surface before applying). This will help to relieve the discomfort and cushion the area to promote healing. Rinsing your mouth with saltwater is also beneficial for healing.

Adjusting the wires and sensitivity

During your treatment, the wires will be adjusted every 4-10 weeks. After an adjustment, your teeth may become sensitive for 2 - 3 days. If this discomfort bothers you, the same medication that you would normally take for a headache will provide relief. If your teeth are sensitive, a soft food diet is recommended for the first couple of days after an adjustment appointment. This sensitivity will not last long.

How long should I expect the first consultation to last?

The initial consultation will last about an hour. Your orthodontist will take the time to answer your questions and give you all of the information necessary to make an informed decision.

Protruding wires causing irritation

If a wire comes undone or is hurting your cheeks or your gums, you can use a bit of wax at the pointy end. Dry the wire first. Add a small ball of wax, about the size of a pea, by pinching it on with your fingers. You can also cut the piece of wire with a nail cutter if you are comfortable doing so on your own. Please call us for assistance.

Broken or lost retainer

If your retainer is either lost or broken, call us immediately so that we may give you an appointment to either repair or replace it, otherwise, your teeth may move quickly.

FINANCIAL OPTIONS AND INSURANCE

With regards to financing and insurance, options are available depending on your orthodontic treatment.
